Offshore grid operator TenneT has awarded a consortium of Dutch marine contractor Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects and Greek cable manufacturer Hellenic Cables the assignment to supply and install sea and land cables for the 700 MW Hollandse Kust (Zuid) Alpha project, located 22 km off the coast of the Province of South Holland. Dutch TSO TenneT is responsible for the offshore grid.
The electricity collected from the turbines at the offshore Alpha substation will be transferred via 2 220-kV cables with each a power capacity of 350 MW to an onshore high-voltage station at the Maasvlakte 2 area in Rotterdam, a 42-km route section. The Van Oord-Hellenic Cables consortium is responsible for the design, manufacturing and installation of the 220 kV subsea and onshore cables and the onshore connection. This grid connection is to be ready by 2021.
The consortium has also been selected preferred contractor for the supply and installation of the cables for the 700 MW Hollandse Kust (Zuid) Beta, which should be ready by 2022, and optionally the manufacturing and laying of an approximately 8 km-long 66 kV marine cable between the Alpha and Beta platforms.
German LMR Drilling GmbH was selected to perform the controlled drilling work for four pipeline sections below the seawall south of the Maasgeul channel to ensure safe connection to the onshore high-voltage substation. The activities are to start in 2019. Source: TenneT
