Siemens Gamesa’s Gemini OWF service contract extended

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Gemini Consortium have reached an agreement for the extension of the operations and maintenance service agreement for the 600 MW Gemini offshore wind farm by another 5 years.

SGRE has been responsible for the full maintenance of the 150 SG 4.0-130, 4 MW wind turbines in the wind farm, located some 85 km off the Groningen coast, since 2016. The company performs this task from the Eemshaven, using the service operation vessel Windea La Cour, which provides accommodation for 60 people in single cabins, of which 40 are
dedicated to service technicians.

The original 15-year long-term service programme (LTP) has now been extended by another 5 years, meaning SGRE will be servicing the wind farm untill 2036. The LTP covers new services and different upgrades, providing greater control over operation and maintenance costs.

Gemini is owned by four companies: Northland Power (60%), Siemens (20%), HVC (10%) and ALTE LEIPZIGER/HALLESCHE (10%). When fully commissioned in 2017, Gemini was the largest offshore wind farm at that time in the Netherlands. In 2020 it produced 2.5 TWh of low-carbon electricity, comparable to the energy use of around 800.000 households.
