On Wednesday, February 5, the Council of State ruled the appeal against the authorised environmental permit for the Piet de Wit wind farm unfounded. The initiators can now start with the repowering activities.
The wind farm is located near Ooltgensplaat in the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee and has been operating since 2003. The 12 old Vestas V66 wind turbines will be replaced by 7 more powerful ones that can have a maximum height of 150 metres.
The initiators of the repowering project are De Plaet BV, a joint venture of Promill BV and Cooperatie Deltawind. They are currently in the process of selecting the turbine supplier. The wind farm is expected to become operational sometime in 2021. By replacing the old turbines, the capacity will rise from 24 to 30 MW.
