Financial close for the Strekdammen Wind Farm in Eemshavenwas reached at the end of 2020. Construction of the two wind turbines will start soon. The choice fell on turbines from GE Renewable Energy (GE). Together they have a capacity of 11 MW. Completion is expected in mid-2022.

Strekdammen is a project of Pondera and Rebel and consists of two wind turbines at the breakwaters in Eemshaven, in the province of Groningen. The parties took over the project from former owner Yard Energy in June 2020. They finalised the financing at the end of 2020, together with ABN AMRO.

GE will supply the turbines that will be adjusted for the saline conditions on site. It concerns the 5.5-158 Cypress turbine with a rotor diameter of 158 m.

Hans Rijntalder, director of Pondera, says: “We are delighted with this new step in this challenging wind energy project. After the acquisition of the project from Yard, and thanks to our partner Rebel, we were able to complete the financing at a rapid pace. We were able to use the experience we gained in supporting the realisation of the GE Haliade-X 12 MW, the world’s largest offshore wind turbine, the prototype of which is in the port of Rotterdam.” Wout Korving from Rebel adds: “At Rebel we are also very happy with this joint development. This type of development (small, challenging and also technologically innovating) suits us perfectly and adds to your appetite.”

Start construction
Contractors VolkerWind (KWS Infra bv Leek / van Hattem en Blankevoort) from Leek and Alsema from Zuidlaren will soon be able to start the construction of the two wind turbines. The turbines are expected to be commissioned by mid-2022.
