Steel manufacturer EEW SPC will produce the 89 monopiles for the 382.7 Fryslân Wind Farm which will rise south of the Afsluitdijk near Breezanddijk. The German producer was contracted by Van Oord Offshore Wind BV. Van Oord is partner, together with Siemens Gamesa, in the Zuiderzeewind consortium, the main contractor for the wind farm.
EEW SPC will start production in January 2020. The production process will last till September 2020. Over 19,000 tonnes of steel will be used for the monopiles. Each monopile has is unique design. On average they measure 42 m in length and weigh 220,000 kilo.
The wind farm will comprise 89 4.3 MW Siemens Gamesa SWT-DD-130 turbines and is expected to become fully operational in 2021.
