Huisman has signed a contract with Danish Fred. Olsen Windcarrier for the delivery of a 1,600mt Leg Encircling Crane. The crane is to be delivered in 2022 and will be used to upgrade one of Fred.Olsen Windcarrier’s Gusto 9000 jack-up vessels, enabling it to install larger foundations and handling all known next generation turbines.

The crane has a compact size and a low own weight. According to Huisman, the fully electrically driven system allows for reduced maintenance and higher reliability. The the Lambda boom design allows for extension of the boom while its stiff construction reduces motions at the crane tip.

Alexandra Koefoed, Managing Director, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier “This unique crane has been enhanced with key updates and an even more extreme boom. The enhanced outreach capacity of this crane upgrade allows us to stow the wind turbine components in a more flexible way despite the increased crane weight, thus maintaining or exceeding the payload we carry for our clients. The Leg Encircling Crane also saves deck space. This is a considerable lifetime extension for the vessel, as the weight and dimensions of wind turbine components continues to increase.”

Key performance features:

  • Aux hook 400t @165m above deck (140m boom)
  • 1250t@38.5m @155m above deck (140m boom)
  • 1600t@32m (105m boom)
  • Boom configuration can be changed in less than a week
